Parts of a Plant

An action song for young children

Sing to the tune of – This Is the Way We Wash Our Hands

This is the way the root grows down,
The root grows down, the root grows down
This is the way the root grows down
Right into the soil

This is the way the stem is straight.
The stem is straight, the stem is straight,
This is the way the stem is straight
Right into the air

This is the way it branches out
Branches out, branches out
This is the way it branches out
Right into the air

This is the way the flower blooms
The flower blooms the flower blooms
This is the way the flower blooms
Right into the air

This is the way the ripe fruit hangs
The ripe fruit hangs, the ripe fruit hangs
This is the way the ripe fruit hangs
Right into the air

Actions you make while singing
Begin with hands on hip and return to this position at the end of each stanza
This is the way the root grows down, Hold both hands down straight and bend at waist towards toes
This is the way the stem is straight. Lift hands straight up at shoulder and sway at the top
This is the way it branches out Hold hands in front and then spread out stretching it to make a T with the body then again come to front position, like as exercise
This is the way the flower blooms Position palm together and open out to make a flower, repeat action
This is the way the ripe fruit hangs Make hand into fists and then cross over each other with fist hanging down. Repeat action with other hand on top.
