Balanced Diet

Mommy says
Eat your veggies and fruits and nuts,
Better finish them, no ‘ifs and buts’.

Daddy says
Egg, meat, cereal, and cheese,
Make you healthy and strong as you please.

Grandpa says
Lettuce, sprouts, carrots and peas,
Make tasty salads and are a tease.

Sister says
Beet and tomatoes make your skin glow
Potatoes and rice make you grow

Teacher says
Have them all when you lunch or dine
That is the way to be healthy and fine.

Soil Types

Dig, dig, dig
Make a hole big
Passing through the layers
Of sand and loam and gravel
Dig, dig, dig

Sing to the tune of Dip-dip-dip my blue ship

A Riddle on Soil - Who are you?

YOU give me warmth and a home too
I am a mole, but who are YOU?

YOU give me strength, I hold on to YOU,
I am a root, but who are YOU?

YOU give me path and bed, allow me in too
I am water, but who are YOU?

YOU give me mud to build my house,
I am man, but who are YOU?

Did you dear friend guess who I am?
I am soil, the home for all toil!

Interdependence of Plants and Animals

This is a sturdy and happy tree
With flowers and fruits on branches three
Animals and birds come here to feed
To rest in its shade. And grow and breed.

The tree turns angry and is quite mean
‘Go away! Shoo, from my branches green’
With a sigh and a bye the animals leave
‘Why? Aren’t we friends?’ They grieve.

Is the tree happy? Let us look at it now
Where are the leaves? Where is the glow?
Branches are bare; the flowers are gone
Bees and squirrels leave the tree alone.

‘Come my friends’ implores the tree
‘Sit on my branches, sing and be free’.
A sparrow obliges and chirps two songs
It’s magic! Look! Green leaves in throngs.

Animals, birds, butterflies and bees,
Creepers, herbs, shrubs and trees
Must live together as a one family
Each needs the other to thrive happily.

Bumble Bee

Bumble bee, bumble bee
Fly up and down the flowering tree!
Land on stem or land on leaf,
Drink up nectar from flowers on reef
Bumble bee, bumble bee
Fly up and down the flowering tree!

Sing to the tune of Beanbag

Living and Non-Living

The tiger, the tree and seed
Can grow
The wind, the water and rock
Cannot

The fly, the deer and man
Can move
The sand, the stone and hill
Cannot

The girl, the grass and zebra
Need food
The bucket, the pole and spoon
Do not

Some things are living things
And some things are not!

Animal have Babies

The cow is munching with her calf
Like this, like this
Horse and pony make me laugh
Like this, like this
The dog and pup, the kitten and cat
And they all are growing fat,
very fat
Dum! Deedee! Dum! Deedee! Dum!

Duck and duckling swim on the lake
Like this, like this
The fish and tadpole live in the lake
Like this, like this
The lion in the den, crow in the nest
Are all from the animal world,
pet and the pest.
Dum! Deedee! Dum! Deedee! Dum!

Sing to the tune of The Ants go Marching

Animals Increase in Number

The sparrow and the dove
And all birds we love
The moth and the cricket
Insects that make a racket
The quiet ant, the busy bee
Lizards and snakes that make us flee
Owls on trees and eagles on cliffs
Fishes in rivers and eels in reefs
They all lay eggs in varied places
to have little ones with little faces.

Life Cycle of a Butterfly

Flutter flutter, butterfly,
Over the flowers small and high.
Are you thirsty hungry too?
Sip up the juice from twenty two.

Visit a leaf and lay your eggs;
So many worms with so many legs.
Eat little worm this leaf and that;
Eat to become green and fat.

Make a cocoon snug and tight,
Sleep for a while day and night
Magic in this papery wrap,
The worm is now a colourful map.

Flutter flutter, butterfly,
Over the flowers far and nigh
Are you thirsty, hungry too?
Drink up the juice, from one or two.

Frog – the Amphibian

Tadpole in the pond
Goes plop, plop, plop!
Froggie on the bank
Goes hop, hop, hop!
Flies over the pond
Are yum yum yum!
Froggie on the edge
Goes dum deedum deedum!

PETS

I have a little monkey

His tail is so long

He jumps around the house

And does everything wrong

I have a little giraffe

His neck is so tall

He can peep into the treetops

And look into the mall.

I have a baby elephant

He is just so fat

I throw the ball at him

For he likes to bat.

Do you have a little pet

That you can care for and love?

A pup? A cat? Or a fat toad?

Maybe a peacock? Or a white dove?

Set the Ball Rolling
